MAKING A SWISS RIFLE TICK LIKE A SWISS WATCH: Mounting a Redfield 3200 Scope to a Swiss rifle

    Product Description

An excerpt from the article: I acquired a Redfield 3200 in 24 power from an auction site. Attached to the barrel mounted blocks of my Winchester 52 (caliber .22 long rifle); I could quickly see why these scopes are so prized! They have great optics, allow for a proper cheek weld and the eye automatically lines up with the eyepiece. Then a Swiss Hämmerli Straight-Pull 300 Meter Free Rifle in caliber .308 Winchester came into my possesion. These rifles are quite rare in the United States. Mine was built in the late 1950’s; near the end of the model run. These are wonderful rifles! It too is drilled and tapped for barrel-mounted blocks. I happened to have a spare set of rimfire blocks in my parts stash. These were mounted on the barrel, and I built a version of our scope base with a positive recoil-stop screw to handle the impact of centerfire recoil. The recoil-stop screw wil keep the base from migrating forward under the influence of the rifle moving back at the instant of firing. The base mount worked perfectly, but again, the scope was a trifle high.
