It's a mechanical but the movement is pretty reliable and it stays within about 10s and seems to run a little faster some days and slower others - but I knew this would be the case before I bought it and the pleasure of wearing a mechanical more than out weighs the loss in precision.Second - I spent a long time shopping around for watches and I had set my hopes on a mechanical, or automatic watch. Unfortunately they were all out of my price range until I checked here. I bought mine direct from Amazon, but still had some concerns because it was several hundred dollars cheaper than the best price I could get from a watchmaker. There's no such thing as a free lunch (especially in online watch sales) and the drawback is that as Amazon is not an official vendor for Swiss Army watches as a result Swiss Army will not honour the warranty. I originally had my eye on the new Rolex Explorer (39mm) but I couldn't justify the price tag. I stumbled across this watch while reading a review of the Victorinox "Air Boss." I am generally drawn to more subtle designs, and I wasn't interested in any chronograph or a diver's watch. The "Officer's Mecha Watch" is well built and easy to read. I wouldn't wear it with a suit, but otherwise, the watch goes with just about anything.I was surprised to find that the crown is a mere push/pull type and not the screw down type. For a watch that's rated at 100m, I would have expected more. Overall, I highly recommend it. Bought it to wear everyday and was looking for something very solid and included the sapphire crystal face (an everyday watch has to be tough). Have not noticed the watch running slow or fast - seems very steady and is still in sync with the world clock server. I also wear it as a dress watch - goes great w/ the suit.For the price, nothing else seems to compare. I looked at many other watches and this fit all my criteria and under $500. Though you may not be getting the Swiss Army Warranty w/ Amazon, other watch carriers sell for almost $700. For a high quality watch like Swiss Army, it was worth the gamble. The only con is that the watch is heavier than others I have owned. Is not really a problem for me and guess you have to account for the ruggedness and additional automatic hardware somewhere. If you are looking for a light watch, this one is prob not for you. |
